Your library. Now it's cable.

Nostalgex turns your Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby collection into live TV channels with a real channel guide. Flip around. Land on something. Watch it like it's Friday night in 1996.

Plex, Jellyfin, and Emby. All three, right on Apple TV.

The Nostalgex channel guide on Apple TV: Black Sheep airing on channel 3, with a full lineup of channels below

The actual app. Channels built from a real library.

Three steps. Then you're just watching TV.

  1. 01

    Point it at your server

Connect Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby, on Apple TV or in the browser. Nostalgex talks straight to your server. That's the whole setup.

  2. 02

    Channels build themselves

Your library gets sorted into channels automatically. Saturday morning cartoons, 90s sitcoms, the VHS vault, the stuff you rewatch constantly. No playlists to make.

  3. 03

    Start flipping

Pull up the guide, pick a channel, or just surf. Everything is already playing. You drop in mid-movie like real TV, because that was half the fun.

The channel guide is the whole point.

Streaming apps give you ten thousand posters and no opinion. A channel guide gives you a lineup. Something is on channel 12 right now, and something else is on at 10.

Nostalgex builds that lineup from your own collection. Scroll the grid, see what's on, and commit. No trailers, no autoplay previews, no forty minutes of browsing.

  • Live schedule across every channel, all day
  • Drop into whatever is airing right now
  • A fresh schedule every day, built from your own collection
The Nostalgex guide grid: The Brave Little Toaster airing on Action Adventure, with Retro Toons, Teen Movies, and Family Hour in the lineup

Nostalgex is free. Always has been.

No ads, no account, no upsell screen. If it gave you a good Friday night, a coffee keeps the channels coming.

The full lineup. All 13 bundles.

Over a hundred channels, sorted into bundles like the back of a cable bill. Every one builds itself from your library.

What actually shows up depends on your library. No westerns, no Westerns channel. Fair.

Watching Black Sheep fullscreen in Nostalgex, flipping through channels with the on-screen channel row

Flip up. Flip down. Land on something great.

The remote works the way remotes used to. Swipe through channels without leaving the picture and see what's up next before you commit.

Channels keep airing when you're not watching. Tune in at 9:40 and you're twenty minutes into something, just like the old days.

Built for watching, not browsing.

Auto-built channels

Genres, eras, franchises, and habits become channels on their own. Add movies to your library and the lineup updates itself.

Always on

Every channel runs a real schedule all day. Nothing waits for you to press play.

Native on Apple TV

A real tvOS app from the App Store, built for the Siri Remote and the big screen. Not a web view pretending.

Free web tuner

No Apple TV handy? Open the tuner in any browser and surf the same channels. It's the fastest way to try Nostalgex.

Your collection only

Every channel is built from media you already own. No subscriptions to a catalog, no ads, nothing you didn't put there.

Works with your server

Point it at the server you already run and it builds the lineup from what is in there. The web tuner connects to all three as well. More on Nostalgex for Jellyfin and Nostalgex for Emby.

Your library stays yours.

Nostalgex connects straight from your device to your media server. Your credentials and your library never pass through our servers, because there is nothing on our end to pass through.

  • No Nostalgex account to create
  • No catalog upload, ever
  • No one watching what you watch

Quick answers.

Do I need a media server to use Nostalgex?

Yes. Nostalgex is a front end for a library you already have on Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby. If you run one of those, you're two minutes from channel surfing.

Do I pick what plays on each channel?

No, and that's on purpose. Nostalgex reads your library and builds the channels and schedules itself. The surprise of "oh, this is on" is the product.

Is the web tuner really free?

Yes. Open it in a browser, connect your server, and watch. The Apple TV app is where the full living-room experience lives.

Does my data go through Nostalgex servers?

No. Playback and sign-in happen directly between your device and your media server. We never see your credentials or your library.

Cable's back. Now on Apple TV.

Free, native, and built for the couch.

What's new

1.0.15SEP 2026

The same movie stops repeating itself

  • Fixed: a movie could air twice in a row with no gap on channels with a smaller lineup. Two separate causes, both fixed: one mid-day, one right at midnight.
  • TRUE CRIME was showing every documentary in the library, sports and music included. Now it is actually true crime.
  • R RATED COMEDY dropped a handful of prestige dramas that only technically counted as comedies.
  • Playback that silently went black and never recovered now gets caught and skipped.
  • Top Shelf logs more clearly when it has nothing new to show.
1.0.14SEP 2026

A premieres channel, and seven more

  • New PREMIERES channel. Anything you add to your server turns up here first, then settles into the rest of the lineup.
  • A newly added film used to premiere on every channel that carried it, all at the same time. It now premieres once, on PREMIERES.
  • Eight new channels: PREMIERES, MILLENNIUM CARTOONS, DREAMWORKS, TOON TOWN, SPY GAMES, MIRAMAX, R RATED COMEDY and SKETCH COMEDY.
  • Films tagged History were being blocked from every channel. Apollo 13, 12 Years a Slave and a dozen others have a home again.
  • Westerns on TV now have a channel, sci-fi horror shows up on SCI-FI, and SPORTS DOCS is no longer empty.
  • ROM COMS, DATE NIGHT, GIRLS NIGHT and TEEN MOVIES stop showing each other the same films.
1.0.13SEP 2026

What is on, from the home screen

  • What you are watching now shows up in Control Center and in the Remote app, with the channel and the poster.
  • Put Nostalgex in the top row of your Apple TV home screen and it shows what is on right now across your channels. Pick one and it tunes straight to it.
  • CRITERION was playing the wrong films. It now plays what it says it does.
  • Nine channels pull from a much bigger pool: BUDDIES, DATE NIGHT, RUSH, FRONT LINE, DRAMA TV, BIOPICS, FOREIGN FILMS, MIDNIGHT and CULT CLASSICS.
  • Channels stick to their own rules again, so cartoons stop turning up on SCI-FI.
1.0.12SEP 2026

Collections become channels

  • Your collections turn into channels. A collection on your Plex, Jellyfin or Emby server now shows up as its own channel alongside the rest of the lineup.
  • Open in Plex sends whatever is playing straight into the Plex app.
  • New additions premiere at prime time, and films that come in two parts are scheduled back to back.
  • The lineup refreshes every six hours instead of once a day, so something you added today can turn up tonight.
  • Fixes: the bottom channel in the guide is selectable again, HEVC files no longer black screen on the Apple TV HD, multi-part movies on Jellyfin and Emby play straight through, and a library scan that gets interrupted keeps what it already loaded instead of starting over.
1.0.11AUG 2026

Faster loading, and a Now Playing panel

  • Big libraries load a lot faster, and the loading screen tells you what it is actually doing the whole way through instead of parking on one step.
  • Slow or flaky connections no longer take the app down with them. Loading and playback both keep going instead of hanging.
  • New Now Playing panel while you watch. Closed captions, subtitle and audio language, stream quality, retro mode, and a sleep timer, all without leaving the program.
  • Open in Plex sends whatever is on straight into the Plex app.
  • Your sign-in sticks. No more getting kicked back to the connect screen after the Apple TV restarts.
  • Guide fixes: rows line up properly, the bottom channel is selectable again, and a program that ends quietly moves on instead of stalling.
1.0.10JUL 2026

Music videos, more channels, and playback upgrades

  • Music videos work now. Drop them in and they fill up HIGH ROTATION, plus a batch of new ones: Y2K, Current Spin, Dance Floor, Caliente, Headbangers, and Get Down. Even videos sitting in a regular movie library get picked up as long as they are tagged Music.
  • New channels: Cartoon Network, Record Store, and an Arthouse pack.
  • Pick your audio language. If a movie has more than one audio track, Nostalgex remembers the one you want.
  • Movies split across a couple of files play straight through now instead of stopping halfway.
  • Your server logins stick. No more re-entering Plex, Jellyfin, or Emby credentials after the Apple TV restarts or restores.
  • Guide cleanup: smoother episode skipping, titles that stay put, a better screensaver, and a curation pass so titles land on the right channel.
1.0.9JUN 2026

Emby support and self-filling Rewatchables

  • Emby support on Apple TV. Connect an Emby server alongside Plex and Jellyfin.
  • Your Rewatchables channels build themselves now. What you watch in Nostalgex counts toward your Plex history, and Rewatchables kicks in at 3 watches instead of 4.
  • New channels (Drama TV, Biopics, Buddies) plus a big curation pass so titles land on the right channel.
  • Fixed the channel guide so it lines up with whatever is on right now, and brought back full late-night schedules.
1.0.5JUN 2026

Performance + polish update

  • General stability improvements across the Apple TV app and web tuner.
  • UI polish and small fixes based on early feedback.
1.0.4JUN 2026

Quality-of-life improvements

  • Small improvements to navigation, readability, and overall responsiveness.
  • Bug fixes and under-the-hood tuning.
1.0.3MAY 2026

16 new channels and a True Crime bundle

  • New True Crime bundle: true crime docs, crime films, thrillers, mystery, and crime TV.
  • Added Last Action Heroes, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Westerns, Teen Movies, Retro Toons, Stand-Up, Docs, Musicals, and an all-ages Anime channel.
  • Smarter curation. Anime and stand-up now pull from a tuned database instead of loose genre tags.
1.0.2MAY 2026

A cleaner channel guide

  • Renumbered every channel into tidy bundles, in real channel-guide order.
  • Lineup stays in sync across the web tuner and the Apple TV app.
1.0MAY 2026

Nostalgex landed on Apple TV

  • Native tvOS app with a real on-screen channel guide.
  • Music video channels get richer genres through MusicBrainz.
WEB TUNERAPR 2026

The free web tuner

  • Your Plex library as cable TV, right in the browser.
  • A fresh daily schedule so there’s always something on.
