True Crime and Thriller Channels
The Case Files bundle. 6 channels, built from your own library.
Case Files is the bundle for the night where everyone agrees on one thing and it is a documentary about a man who definitely did it.
Six channels. TRUE CRIME is the real cases: the docuseries, the cold cases, the interview footage. CRIME FLICKS is the fiction side, mob movies and heists and detectives. THRILLERS is the tension channel, where it does not have to be a crime so long as somebody is in trouble. MYSTERY is the gentler end, the whodunit you can follow with half your attention. CRIME TV is the procedural shelf, the shows with a hundred and eighty episodes that nobody watches in order. MYSTERY BOX TV is the opposite kind of show: one big question, a season of clues, and a finale everyone argues about. Lost, Twin Peaks, Dark, Severance.
That last one is the reason this bundle exists in this shape. Procedurals are the most channel shaped thing anybody owns. Nobody sits down to watch episode four of season six on purpose. You put one on because it is on, which is exactly what the guide does: it builds a schedule out of what you own, starts the episode before you walk in, and keeps going.
Everything here is your library. Nostalgex reads your Plex or Jellyfin server, sorts what is there into these six channels, and plays it back on a real clock. No titles come with the app. If your crime shelf is all documentaries and no fiction, you get TRUE CRIME and nothing else, because a channel waits until there is enough on your server to fill it rather than showing you an empty slot.
One small warning: this is the bundle most likely to eat an evening. A documentary channel that never asks you to pick the next one is how three hours disappear. Keep it on a channel you can leave.
Free, open source under the MIT license, Apple TV on tvOS 18 or later. Turn the bundle on in settings, pair it with a lighter one for when the house wants something else.

Case Files FAQ
Do I need my own true crime library?
Yes. These channels are assembled from the Plex or Jellyfin library you already have. Nostalgex schedules your files, it does not supply any titles.
What is the difference between TRUE CRIME and CRIME FLICKS?
TRUE CRIME is the documentary side, the real cases. CRIME FLICKS is fiction: heists, mob films, detective movies.
Why is a channel missing?
A channel turns on once there are enough matching titles in your library to fill it. A couple of docuseries is not a channel yet.
Is it any good for background viewing?
It is one of the best bundles for it. Documentaries and procedurals hold up when you look away, which is why CRIME TV tends to be the one people leave running.
Does it cost anything?
No. The app is free and open source under the MIT license.
