Anime, Stand Up and Date Night Channels

The Marquee bundle. 11 channels, built from your own library.

Marquee is the bundle for the end of the shelf you are a little proud of.

Eleven channels, and they split along two lines. First, the formats that deserve their own channel instead of being mixed in with everything else. ANIME, MUSICALS, GAME SHOWS, ADULT CARTOONS, SKETCH COMEDY, STAND UP. Those are all things that feel wrong sandwiched between two action movies and right when they run back to back. A stand up channel in particular is one of the best things to leave on in a room with people in it, because nobody has to follow a plot.

Second, the channels that sort by how good a thing is rather than what it is. ALL TIME GREATS and CERTIFIED GOLD pull the strongest titles out of your own library using the ratings attached to them. BIOPICS and DATE NIGHT are mood channels for a specific evening. The point of this group is that your library has a top ten percent in it that you never watch, because the posters all look the same in a grid and you always pick the one you have already seen.

A channel fixes that by taking the decision away. It was already playing when you tuned in, you did not choose it, so you give it ten minutes. Ten minutes is usually all a great film needs.

As everywhere else in the app: these are your files. Nostalgex reads your Plex or Jellyfin library, groups titles into the eleven channels, builds a real schedule and starts playing partway through. Nothing is supplied with the app and nothing streams in from outside your server. A library with no anime in it simply never shows an ANIME channel, which is the right behaviour, because an empty channel in the guide is worse than one that is not there.

Turn the bundle on in settings, leave the ones you do not want dark. Free, open source under the MIT license, Apple TV on tvOS 18 or later.

Marquee FAQ

What makes a title land on ALL TIME GREATS or CERTIFIED GOLD?

Ratings data on the titles you already own. The channels read the quality signals attached to your library, so the best of your own shelf rises to the top rather than somebody else's list.

Do I need my own movies and shows?

Yes. Every channel here is built from your own Plex or Jellyfin library. Nostalgex schedules what you own and plays it back.

Why is ANIME or MUSICALS missing from my guide?

A channel turns on once your library has enough titles to fill it. Three musicals is not a channel. Add a few more and it appears the next time the guide builds.

Is this bundle a paid tier?

No. The name is a nod to the premium cable tiers. The whole app is free and open source under the MIT license.

Does it work with Jellyfin?

Yes, on Plex and Jellyfin both. Jellyfin signs in with Quick Connect so there is no password typing on the remote.
