Action, Sci Fi and Western Channels

The Adventureland bundle. 9 channels, built from your own library.

Adventureland is the bundle for the big dumb wonderful stuff, and I mean that as a compliment.

Nine channels, each one a different flavour of spectacle. EPIC ADVENTURES is the long haul: the quest movies, the ones with a map in the opening credits. DISASTER MOVIES is the genre where the weather is the villain. RUSH is anything that keeps moving, chases and heists and races. SCI FI and FANTASY get their own channels because people who want one of them usually want it specifically and not mixed in with a courtroom drama. WESTERNS is the shelf your dad built. FRONT LINE is war films. SUPERHERO MOVIES is the one that will run for days if you have been buying them since 2008. SPY GAMES is the tuxedo and the briefcase.

This is the bundle that benefits most from not choosing. Big movies are the ones you own plenty of and watch least, because they ask for a commitment up front. Two and a half hours is a decision. But catching one already forty minutes in, right as the thing you remembered is about to happen, is not a decision at all, and that is what the guide does. It was running before you got there.

It also makes a decent wallpaper channel. Put SUPERHERO MOVIES or RUSH on in a room where people are doing something else, and it works the way a TV used to work in the corner of a living room.

Everything comes from your own server. Nostalgex reads the Plex or Jellyfin library you already have, sorts titles into these nine channels, builds a schedule and starts mid film. No movies ship with the app and nothing is streamed in from anywhere else. What shows up depends on what you own, so a shelf with no fantasy on it will not show a FANTASY channel.

Free, open source under the MIT license, runs on Apple TV with tvOS 18 or later. Turn the bundle on in settings and leave the rest dark if you only want the loud ones.

Adventureland FAQ

Do I need my own movies?

Yes. Every channel here is built from the Plex or Jellyfin library you already own. Nostalgex schedules your files and plays them back.

Why is WESTERNS missing from my guide?

Because there are no westerns on your server. A channel only turns on once your library has enough matching titles to fill it, which is why no two people see the same lineup.

What is the difference between EPIC ADVENTURES and RUSH?

EPIC ADVENTURES is the long one, the three hour quest you settle in for. RUSH is the fast one: chases, heists, anything that does not slow down.

Is this the bundle for a family movie night?

It is the closest thing to it for older kids. The channels skew big and loud rather than gentle, so pair it with the family channels if there are little ones in the room.

Does it cost anything?

No. The app is free and open source under the MIT license.
