Movie Franchise Marathon Channels

The Franchises bundle. 7 channels, built from your own library.

Everybody who has collected movies for a while has a few complete sets on the shelf, and almost nobody ever watches them as a set.

That is the gap this bundle fills. Seven channels, each one a single film series, running its entries in order, all day. STAR WARS. MARVEL. HARRY POTTER. JURASSIC PARK. LORD OF THE RINGS. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE. JASON BOURNE. It is the marathon that used to turn up on a channel over a long weekend: you tune in, the second one is forty minutes in, and you watch the rest of the afternoon rather than picking.

Playing in order is the part that matters. Everywhere else in the app a channel is happy to mix a decade or a genre and start you in the middle of something unrelated. A series channel does not do that, because a series has a shape. So these channels walk the entries from the first to the last, and when they reach the end they go back to the beginning.

All of it is yours. Nostalgex reads the Plex or Jellyfin library you already have, finds the series in it, and builds channels out of what is there. No films ship with the app, nothing streams in from anywhere else, and a series you do not own simply has no channel. Own four of the MARVEL films and that channel runs those four. Own none of them and you will never see it. That also means your lineup here is personal: two people with the same bundle switched on see different channels, because they bought different box sets.

A nice side effect: it surfaces the entry you skipped. Most people own a full set and have seen the first two and the last one. A channel that runs the whole thing in order puts the third one in front of you at eight on a Tuesday, already playing, and you watch it because turning it off takes more effort than leaving it on.

It is also the bundle that makes the best argument for a guide over a library. Your server already has these films. You can find them in about four seconds. You still do not put them on, because starting a franchise on purpose feels like signing up for nine hours. Walking into one already running feels like luck.

Franchises FAQ

Which franchises get a channel?

Seven: STAR WARS, MARVEL, HARRY POTTER, JURASSIC PARK, LORD OF THE RINGS, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE and JASON BOURNE. Each one only appears once your own library has enough of that series to fill a day.

Do the films come with the app?

No. Every channel here is built from the Plex or Jellyfin library you already own. Nostalgex supplies the channels and the schedule, nothing else.

Do the films play in order?

Yes, that is the point of this bundle. A series channel runs the entries in order rather than shuffling them, so it behaves like a marathon instead of a random shelf.

What happens when it reaches the end of a series?

It starts again from the beginning, the same way a holiday weekend marathon loops on cable.

Does it cost anything?

No. The app is free and open source under the MIT license.
