Channels by Studio and Streamer

The Networks bundle. 12 channels, built from your own library.

This bundle sorts your library by who made the thing, which sounds dry until you see your own guide fill up.

Twelve channels: HBO, APPLE TV+, NETFLIX, PARAMOUNT+, AMAZON, HULU, SONY, WARNER BROS, UNIVERSAL, 20TH CENTURY, MIRAMAX and A24. Each one gathers the titles in your library that came out of the same place. It is the oldest way of organising a TV lineup there is. A channel used to mean a company with a house style, and you knew roughly what you were getting before the title card finished.

That turns out to still be true. The HBO channel ends up being prestige drama and long running series. 20TH CENTURY and UNIVERSAL end up being the big loud summer stuff. MIRAMAX is a particular slice of the 90s that is hard to describe and obvious once it is running. A24 is the newest house style on the list and the easiest to spot: slow burn horror and odd little dramas. Nobody tagged them that way: that is just what those places actually made, and once your own shelf is split along those lines you notice how much of your library came from two or three of them.

Worth being clear, because the names confuse people: nothing here streams from a subscription. Nostalgex has no catalogue of its own and no connection to any of these services. It reads the Plex or Jellyfin library sitting on your server, uses the studio information already attached to those files, and builds channels out of what you own. The NETFLIX channel is the originals you have in your own library, not a window into Netflix. If you have never owned anything from a particular studio, that channel never appears.

A channel also waits until there is enough on your shelf to fill a day before it turns on, so expect a lopsided lineup. Everyone has a few studios they have quietly collected and a few they have almost nothing from.

Then it behaves like the rest of the app: a real schedule, already playing when you tune in, dropping you into the middle of something instead of a menu. It is a good bundle to leave running next to a wider one, because studio channels are unpredictable in a way genre channels are not. You get a prestige drama, then a cartoon, then something from 1994 you forgot you bought, all from the same company.

Networks FAQ

What channels are in this bundle?

Twelve: HBO, APPLE TV+, NETFLIX, PARAMOUNT+, AMAZON, HULU, SONY, WARNER BROS, UNIVERSAL, 20TH CENTURY, MIRAMAX and A24. Each one gathers the titles in your own library that came from that studio or service.

Does this stream from a subscription service?

No. There is no outside catalogue anywhere in Nostalgex, and no account with any service. These channels only play files that are already on your own Plex or Jellyfin server.

How does a title end up on one of these channels?

From the studio and production metadata your server already holds for the titles you own.

Why is a channel missing from my guide?

A channel turns on once enough of your library matches it. Most libraries are lopsided here, so some channels run all day and others never appear.

Does it cost anything?

No. Nostalgex is free and open source under the MIT license, and it needs no subscription to anything.
